Getting to Charleston from New York last Wednesday was quite an adventure - especially as New York was having a horrible rain storm - so after a very delayed flight, I finally arrived at 1AM. Tired or not, I was determined to make it to the Charleston Library Society for the Tibi Pre-Fall fashion show the next night. Women came from near and far and dressed to impress in their most fashionable garb. As VIPs, Elizabeth and I got to first mingle with the other VIPs amongst the beautiful old racks of books downstairs in a private room. This was where we were fortunate enough to meet Amy Smilovic, the fabulous founder of Tibi, and speak to her about The Well Coiffed Closet and what our mission is and how her collection is the perfect fit for our roster of clients. She could not have been a kinder and more down-to-earth person.
With the Southern C Summit in full effect in Charleston at the same time, there were many Southern influencers in town. It was downstairs where I ran into MK Quinlan of Garden and Gun Magazine, Haskell Harris of Magpie, Caitlin Moran of Glitter Guide, and the fabulous Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes. After chatting for an hour, we were all told that the show was about to begin and it was time to find our seats. I have to admit I was excited to see my name on a seat at a fashion show. The conversations continued even after the show ended when I got to meet three more fabulous Southern ladies, Morgan Hutchinson of Shop Buru, Jamie Meares of Furbish Studio and I Suwanee, Jessica Foley Morse of Bare Beauty, and Katie Armour of Matchbook Magazine.
As expected, the show was both completely fabulous and inspirational. It made me very excited for Fall as I watched that dreamy pink jacket come down the runway, as well as the color block silk pants and a green plaid top. Those were definitely some of my favorites I was envisioning for my clients closets. To my surprise (and new obsession) are the Tibi shoes. The models walked down in chunky booties and heels as well as to die for oxford flats and a platform sandal that made me swoon.
After the show, they cleared out the benches and transformed the space into a shopping haven of Tibi everywhere, as DJ John Zahl spun through the night. Women were eagerly grabbing to try on so they could either pre-order fall or buy the spring collection (that's currently available). You could even buy the Hampden and Tibi Converse and Vans sneaker collaboration and get them monogrammed right then and there - pretty cool!
Stacy Smallwood of Hampden Clothing deserves a huge round of applause for the night, as well as for how she has transformed Charleston into a fashion mecca. All in all, it was an incredible night - with a fun takeaway gift bag to boot!
