What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

Craig and I have just returned from a dear friend's wedding just outside of Boston in the beautiful town of Marblehead, MA. I helped the bride choose her gorgeous Monique Lhuillier gown from the incredible Glamour Closet in Los Angeles where you can purchase designer gowns at sample sale prices.

It was a magical weekend filled with so much love, joy, and of course lots of dancing. From the setting of ocean waves breaking against the cliffs to the details of the day and the surprise musical performances by multiple people in the wedding party, it was a night to be remembered for a very long time - one that allowed me to reminisce my own wedding as we approach our 5 year wedding anniversary.

There are all kinds of different settings for weddings. What last weekend did is it made me think about the fashion of weddings and what to wear at each kind. My own wedding was on a plantation outside of Charleston, which would fall most along the lines of a country wedding, whereas my friend's Marblehead wedding was more of a beach wedding with a little bit of country thrown in. I chose to wear a long bright blue maxi dress with a cinched waist and my blue Dior platform pumps, which as you can see, allowed me to dance the night away:)

Take a look below at a few examples.

Charleston Shopping Favorites

AHHH Charleston. I love living here! Beaches, beautiful homes and people, and of course, King Street. I always joke to my parents that I chose my college with proximity to shopping (College of Charleston). But as most know, King Street then is not what it is today! Today, there are so many amazing places to shop! Hampden, James, Calypso, Berlins (a classic), Billy Reid, Rapport, RTW, the list goes on. For the kiddos, there is Sugar Snap Pea in their new location across from The Charleston Place. And of course you have to make the tiny trip to 1600 Meeting, where the creatives of Novel--Liza Cleveland of Bon Vivant Stationary, Lauren Lail of Library Vintage, and Way Way Allen's art--can all be found and bought!

The Perfect Beach Day

With summer in full swing, we all want to have a great day at the beach. Now that I live in LA, I am definitely frequenting the beach more often, which is such a treat. I have included some of my favorite tools to protect you from the sun, yet still make you stylish and create the perfect day. Don't forget to include your favorite magazine or a great beach read and some yummy eats to top it all off!  Click through the images below to shop our favorites and to also get inspired to make your day at the beach the best it can be!

4th of July Celebration

I can't believe it's already time to bring out the red, white, and blue! If you are entertaining for the 4th, I'm here to give you some tips on dressing your table and yourself for the 4th of July so that you are the chicest hostess of them all.

For the style of the day, mix it up by wearing one of the 3 colors as your main accent and accessorizing with the rest or mix all of the colors in separates but in a more interesting and sophisticated way.

1. Try a white dress with red jewelry and blue shoes

3. OR try a red skirtnavy top and white hat

As for dressing your table stylishly, I love doing a more sophisticated atypical red, white and blue theme. Your guests will appreciate how different it is and the time and care you took to make it a special day.   For the perfect throw on your table check out this beautiful Handloomed throw in red and off-white found on lesindiennesshop.com.  For napkins, check out the baby-blue diamond napkins from Heathertaylorhome.com.

For the cooking part of the day, I enlisted the help of my new friend, Elana Horwich, of Meal and a Spiel, here in LA. She offered up some yummy recipes and a few helpful tips and some stylish tools to make your BBQ functional yet super classy. *P.S. I'm obsessed with the Mason Jar Dispenser :) I want one immediately.

Elana's Tips for the perfect BBQ:

1. LOTS of ice

2. Good looking plastic cups because things tend to break at BBQ's like Go Vino cups

3. Offer health conscious menu options.  No one needs a cheeseburger and sugar-laden baked beans so balance out the BBQ meat with fresh healthy and tasty salads or grilled vegetables in olive oil.

4. Go green and make your life easier with bamboo disposable plates like these from leafware

5. Put a little personality into your BBQ with a few small flower arrangements in mason jars.

6. Try one of these fool-proof recipes to really make your BBQ the best it can be!

Elana’s Secret Marinade Chicken Skewers

Elana and her cooking classes are fabulous.  For LA folks, mention The Well Coiffed Closet for a 15% discount at Meal and a Spiel

Tibi x Hampden Clothing Event

Getting to Charleston from New York last Wednesday was quite an adventure - especially as New York was having a horrible rain storm - so after a very delayed flight, I finally arrived at 1AM. Tired or not, I was determined to make it to the Charleston Library Society for the Tibi Pre-Fall fashion show the next night. Women came from near and far and dressed to impress in their most fashionable garb. As VIPs, Elizabeth and I got to first mingle with the other VIPs amongst the beautiful old racks of books downstairs in a private room. This was where we were fortunate enough to meet Amy Smilovic, the fabulous founder of Tibi, and speak to her about The Well Coiffed Closet and what our mission is and how her collection is the perfect fit for our roster of clients. She could not have been a kinder and more down-to-earth person.

With the Southern C Summit in full effect in Charleston at the same time, there were many Southern influencers in town. It was downstairs where I ran into MK Quinlan of Garden and Gun Magazine, Haskell Harris of Magpie, Caitlin Moran of Glitter Guide, and the fabulous Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes. After chatting for an hour, we were all told that the show was about to begin and it was time to find our seats. I have to admit I was excited to see my name on a seat at a fashion show.  The conversations continued even after the show ended when I got to meet three more fabulous Southern ladies, Morgan Hutchinson of Shop Buru, Jamie Meares of Furbish Studio and I Suwanee, Jessica Foley Morse of Bare Beauty, and Katie Armour of Matchbook Magazine.

As expected, the show was both completely fabulous and inspirational. It made me very excited for Fall as I watched that dreamy pink jacket come down the runway, as well as the color block silk pants and a green plaid top. Those were definitely some of my favorites I was envisioning for my clients closets. To my surprise (and new obsession) are the Tibi shoes. The models walked down in chunky booties and heels as well as to die for oxford flats and a platform sandal that made me swoon.

After the show, they cleared out the benches and transformed the space into a shopping haven of Tibi everywhere, as DJ John Zahl spun through the night. Women were eagerly grabbing to try on so they could either pre-order fall or buy the spring collection (that's currently available). You could even buy the Hampden and Tibi Converse and Vans sneaker collaboration and get them monogrammed right then and there - pretty cool!

Stacy Smallwood of Hampden Clothing deserves a huge round of applause for the night, as well as for how she has transformed Charleston into a fashion mecca. All in all, it was an incredible night - with a fun takeaway gift bag to boot!
